Our History

The Oakland church of Christ had it’s beginning on May 4, 1975 when nine members from Maryland and nearby West Virginia met in the home of Barbara DeNegris for worship service. Mr. John James was the minister.

About the last of May 1975 the church began meeting in the Mountain Lake Park Town Hall. At the end of 1975 Mr. James left and went to Pennsylvania to preach for an established congregation.

The church continued meeting in the town hall with guest speakers from Cumberland, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia. In the spring of 1981 members realized they would never see substantial growth until there was a building to meet in and began to make plans to build.

The building was completed in the summer of 1981, and the church met in the building for the first time in January 1982.
